🛠 Core Capabilities

A Driver’s Complete Digital Toolkit

Six tools that replace paper logs, phone-tag with dispatch, lost receipts, and forgotten expiration dates. Everything syncs to the carrier’s TMS in real time.

📋
Active Load Details
View current and upcoming assignments with complete pickup and delivery addresses, facility contact names, operating hours, special instructions, load weight, commodity type, and broker contact information. Every detail a driver needs before arriving at a shipper or receiver is visible in one screen. No more calling dispatch for basic load information. When loads are reassigned or updated, the portal reflects changes immediately so drivers always have the most current data available.
HOS Dashboard
Live hours-of-service remaining displayed in clear, color-coded format. Drive time available, on-duty window, 30-minute break requirement, and 70-hour cycle status are all visible at a glance. As limits approach, the dashboard shifts from green to yellow to red so drivers can plan stops proactively. The HOS data syncs directly from the ERETH ELD, meaning there is no manual entry and no discrepancies between what the ELD records and what the portal displays. Violations are flagged before they happen.
📁
Document Management
Upload proof of delivery, bills of lading, fuel receipts, scale tickets, and lumper receipts directly from a phone camera or as file uploads from a browser. Each document is automatically linked to the correct load number, eliminating the need to sort or label paperwork manually. Carriers see uploaded documents instantly in their TMS dashboard. The system supports JPEG, PNG, and PDF formats. Documents are stored securely and accessible for auditing or dispute resolution at any time.
💬
Dispatch Chat
Direct message threads between driver and dispatch, organized by load. Each conversation stays attached to its load record, creating a complete communication history. Read receipts confirm when messages are seen. File attachments allow sharing photos, documents, or screenshots without leaving the app. Drivers never need to share personal cell numbers, and dispatchers can manage conversations from the carrier portal. All messages are archived and searchable for compliance or dispute purposes.
🔎
DVIR Access
Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections directly from the portal or app. The inspection form covers all FMCSA-required items including brakes, tires, lights, mirrors, coupling devices, and emergency equipment. When a defect is found, drivers can upload photos documenting the issue. The fleet manager or maintenance team is notified immediately. A full 90-day inspection history is accessible from the portal, making it easy to demonstrate compliance during roadside inspections or audits.
👤
Profile & Documents
Drivers manage their own emergency contacts, CDL information, medical certificate expiration dates, and direct deposit details from the portal. When a medical certificate or CDL is approaching expiration, the system sends automatic reminders to both the driver and the carrier. This prevents lapses in qualification that could result in out-of-service orders. Drivers can also update their address, phone number, and other personal details without involving the back office.
🕑 Daily Workflow

A Driver’s Typical Morning

Here is what a real day looks like when a driver uses the VAU0 Driver Portal and app together. Eight timestamps, zero phone calls to dispatch.

5:30
5:30 AM — Reviews Today’s Load
Opens the VAU0 app on his phone. Today’s load is already assigned: pickup at 7:00 AM from a warehouse in Nashville, 42,000 lbs dry van, destination Memphis. The shipper’s dock hours, contact name, and special instructions (no pallets, floor-loaded) are all visible. He reviews the delivery address and estimated transit time. No need to call dispatch — everything is right there.
5:45
5:45 AM — Completes Pre-Trip DVIR
Walks around the truck completing the pre-trip inspection through the app. Everything checks out except a small crack in the passenger-side mirror. He takes a photo, marks the defect in the DVIR form, and submits it. The fleet manager is notified immediately via the carrier portal. Because the defect does not affect safe operation, the driver is cleared to proceed. The photo and report are stored in the 90-day DVIR history.
6:15
6:15 AM — Marks On Duty
Taps “On Duty” in the ELD section of the app. The ERETH ELD begins recording on-duty time. The HOS dashboard updates to show remaining drive hours, on-duty hours, and the 70-hour cycle status. All clocks are running and visible on the main screen of the app.
7:00
7:00 AM — Arrives at Shipper
Pulls into the shipper’s yard. The app shows the dock hours (6 AM – 4 PM), the shipping contact’s name, and the door assignment noted in special instructions. He taps “At Shipper” in the load status. The carrier’s TMS and the broker both see the status change in real time. No check-call needed.
8:45
8:45 AM — Loaded and En Route
Loading is complete. The driver photographs the signed bill of lading and uploads it through the app. The BOL image is automatically linked to the load record. He taps “Loaded — En Route.” Dispatch and the broker see the update immediately. The ELD switches to driving status when the truck begins moving.
2:30
2:30 PM — 30-Minute Break Reminder
The app notifies the driver that the mandatory 30-minute break is required within the next hour. He pulls into a rest area off I-40. The ELD automatically logs the break when the vehicle is stationary for 30 consecutive minutes. The HOS dashboard updates to reflect the completed break and recalculates remaining drive time.
5:15
5:15 PM — Arrives at Receiver
Arrives at the receiver in Memphis. Taps “At Receiver.” The dock crew begins unloading. While waiting, the driver photographs the signed proof of delivery at the dock. The POD image uploads to the load record. The carrier now has both the BOL and the POD attached to this load — ready for invoicing.
5:45
5:45 PM — Delivery Complete
Marks the delivery as complete in the app. The load status updates automatically across the entire system — dispatch sees it in the TMS, the broker sees it in their tracking portal, and the load moves to “delivered” status. The driver’s next assignment is already visible in the app if one has been assigned. If not, he completes a post-trip DVIR and logs off duty.

Zero phone calls. In this entire day, the driver never called dispatch. Every status update, document upload, and communication happened through the portal. Dispatch monitored the load from their TMS dashboard without interrupting the driver. This is what modern trucking operations look like.

📱 Platform Comparison

Web vs App — What Works Where

The VAU0 Driver Portal is available as a web application accessible from any browser and as a native iOS app. Here is exactly what each platform supports.

Feature Web Browser VAU0 Driver App (iOS)
HOS Logging View only ELD-connected
DVIR Full Full + camera
Load Details Full Full + offline
Document Upload File upload Camera capture
Dispatch Chat Full Push notifications
ELD Connection Bluetooth
Offline Mode
GPS Tracking Auto from ELD
Which should drivers use? Most drivers use the iOS app as their primary tool because it connects to the ERETH ELD via Bluetooth and supports camera-based document capture. The web portal is useful for drivers who want to review load history, manage profile settings, or access their account from a desktop computer. Both platforms share the same login credentials and data.

Key Differences Explained

💻
Web Portal Strengths
The web portal excels at tasks that benefit from a larger screen: reviewing detailed load histories, reading multi-page documents, managing profile information, and viewing extended HOS records. It requires no app installation and works on any device with a modern browser. Carriers sometimes ask drivers to use the web portal during orientation to set up their profiles and review company policies before going on the road.
📱
iOS App Strengths
The iOS app is built for the cab. It connects to the ERETH ELD hardware via Bluetooth, enabling automatic HOS logging, GPS tracking, and engine diagnostics without manual input. The camera integration means drivers can photograph BOLs, PODs, and defects in seconds. Push notifications alert drivers to new messages, load updates, and HOS warnings even when the app is in the background. Offline mode caches critical load data for areas without cell coverage.
💬 From the Road

What Drivers Say

Real feedback from CDL drivers using the VAU0 Driver Portal every day.

🗣

“I used to call dispatch five or six times a day just to get basic load info — what dock, what time, who to ask for. Now I open the app and everything is there. I haven’t called dispatch for load details in months. When I do need to reach them, I send a message through the app and they reply within minutes.”

— OTR Driver, 8 years experience
🗣

“The document upload feature saves me 30 minutes a day minimum. Before VAU0, I had to scan BOLs at truck stops or mail paperwork back to the office. Now I take a picture and it’s done. My settlement comes faster because the office gets the POD the same day I deliver.”

— Regional Driver, 4 years experience
🗣

“The DVIR feature is simple but it matters. I found a brake issue on a pre-trip last month. Took a photo, submitted it, and maintenance had parts waiting for me at the terminal the next morning. Before this app, I would have called the shop and they might have written it down on a sticky note. The photo made the difference.”

🔗 Integration

How the Driver Portal Connects to the Carrier Side

Everything a driver does in the portal is visible to the carrier in real time. Here is how the data flows.

🚀
Load Status Updates
When a driver taps “At Shipper,” “Loaded,” “At Receiver,” or “Delivered,” the carrier’s TMS dashboard updates instantly. Brokers with tracking access also see the update. This eliminates manual check calls and gives dispatchers a real-time view of every load in the fleet without picking up the phone.
📄
Document Flow
BOLs, PODs, and receipts uploaded by drivers appear immediately in the carrier’s document center, attached to the correct load. Billing staff can generate invoices the same day a load delivers because the paperwork is already in the system. No waiting for mail, no scanning at the office, no lost documents.
🛑
Safety & Compliance
DVIR reports, HOS data, and driver qualification documents all flow into the carrier’s compliance dashboard. When a driver’s medical certificate is 30 days from expiration, both the driver and the safety manager receive alerts. DVIR defects trigger maintenance workflows. HOS violations are flagged for review. The carrier maintains a complete digital audit trail.

Security and Access Control

Each driver has their own login credentials. Drivers can only see their own loads, documents, and HOS data. They cannot access other drivers’ information or carrier-level financial data. Carriers control which features are available to drivers and can deactivate access immediately when a driver leaves the company. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

  • Individual driver accounts with unique credentials
  • Role-based access — drivers see only their own data
  • Carrier admin can enable or disable features per driver
  • Immediate account deactivation when a driver is terminated
  • 256-bit TLS encryption for all data in transit
  • AES-256 encryption for data stored at rest
  • Session timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity
  • Audit logs for all login attempts and document access
🏁 Getting Started

How Drivers Get Access

Three steps. No software purchase. No per-driver fees.

1
Carrier Creates Driver Account
The carrier adds the driver in the VAU0 TMS. This creates a driver record with name, CDL number, and email address. The system generates login credentials and sends a welcome email to the driver with instructions for first-time setup. The entire process takes less than two minutes per driver.
2
Driver Downloads App or Logs In Online
The driver downloads the VAU0 Driver App from the iOS App Store or navigates to portal.vau0.com in a web browser. First login prompts the driver to set a new password, add emergency contacts, and upload their CDL photo and medical certificate. The guided setup ensures all required documents are captured before the driver starts their first load.
3
Start Driving
Once setup is complete, the driver can see assigned loads, complete DVIRs, log HOS through the ELD, and communicate with dispatch. There is no training certification required — the interface is designed to be intuitive for drivers who may not be comfortable with technology. Most drivers are fully productive within their first shift using the app.
❓ FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from drivers and carriers about the VAU0 Driver Portal.

Is the Driver Portal free?
Yes. The Driver Portal is included with every VAU0 carrier account at no additional cost. There are no per-driver fees, no per-login charges, and no feature tiers. Every driver on a carrier’s roster gets full access to all portal features. This applies to both the web portal and the iOS app.
Does it work on Android?
The native app is currently available on iOS only. Android development is on the roadmap. However, Android users can access the full web portal through Chrome or any modern mobile browser. The web portal is responsive and works well on phone screens. The only features unavailable on the web are ELD Bluetooth connection, offline mode, and push notifications.
What if a driver does not have cell service?
The iOS app includes offline mode. Load details, DVIR forms, and HOS data are cached locally on the device. Documents and messages queued while offline are automatically uploaded when connectivity returns. The ELD continues logging regardless of cell coverage because it connects to the phone via Bluetooth, not through the internet.
Can owner-operators use the Driver Portal?
Yes. Owner-operators who are leased to a carrier using VAU0 get the same portal access as company drivers. They see their own loads, upload their own documents, and manage their own compliance records. The carrier controls what information is shared with leased operators versus company drivers through the admin settings.
How is driver data protected?
All data is encrypted using industry-standard TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest. Driver personal information (CDL number, Social Security digits, medical records) is stored in isolated, access-controlled segments. Only the driver and authorized carrier administrators can view sensitive information. VAU0 does not sell or share driver data with third parties.
What happens when a driver leaves the company?
The carrier deactivates the driver’s account from the admin panel. The driver immediately loses access to the portal and app. Historical data (completed loads, documents, HOS records) remains in the carrier’s system for compliance retention. If the driver joins another carrier that uses VAU0, they create a new account with their new employer. Previous employer data is not transferred.
